Offshore Wind Webinar Proves a Success

Tue, 11 February, 2020

TWI Senior Project Leader, Ben Robinson oversaw a webinar related to ‘Materials Challenges in Offshore Wind’ on 6 February 2020.

The webinar proved a success, with over 100 people attending the free event. The event provided information on the current state of offshore wind power, with the UK currently leading the world for offshore wind capacity, as well as details on the current challenges faced by the industry.

These challenges included those related to corrosion, fatigue, lightning strikes, erosion and biofouling. The webinar detailed how operational availability is becoming increasingly significant as reliance upon offshore wind increases.

There was also an opportunity for attendees to pose their own questions related to offshore wind. These questions included those related to inspection, coatings, and corrosion, allowing Ben to provide immediate feedback and answers.

This event was the latest in a series of successful free webinars that can be accessed remotely to save on travel and time for interested parties. Those that register can also access the presentation following the event, with the ‘Materials Challenges in Offshore Wind’ webinar now available to view here.

You can also find out more about addressing the challenges of offshore wind and how coatings can greatly reduce the cost of offshore wind energy.

You can also keep abreast of future events, including webinars on our events page, while there are plans to hold a seminar related to offshore wind on 26 November at TWI’s headquarters near Cambridge.
