Cancellation of Friction Stir Welding Symposium 2020

Mon, 30 March, 2020

The 13th International Symposium on Friction Stir Welding has been cancelled. The event, one of the most significant in its field, was due to take place 26-28 May, in Kyoto, Japan. The event will return in 2022.

A statement released by the organisers reads, “It is with great regret that we announce the 13th International Symposium on Friction Stir Welding, due to take place in May, is cancelled.”

“After very careful consideration, the unprecedented impact of the global coronavirus pandemic has forced this decision in the interest of the health and safety of all.”

“This decision was reached after taking several major factors surrounding the outbreak of Covid-19 into consideration, all of which we have concluded make it impossible for us to create and host the event this May.”

“We understand this news will be a disappointment and we were looking forward to some fantastic research being presented but, rest assured, we are determined to return in 2022”.

"We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who has contributed to preparing for the event - particularly the authors and Osaka University."
