TWI North East Holds Arc Welding Demonstration Day

Fri, 13 December, 2019

The TWI Technology and Training Centre North East welcomed visitors to our site in Middlesbrough for an arc welding demonstration day on 28 November 2019. The well-attended demonstration day was a huge success, with visitors being drawn from across the North East and beyond.

The event, which showed businesses the benefits of arc welding technologies, included shop floor demonstrations from some of the best-known equipment manufacturers, including ESAB, EWM Hightec Welding, Fronius, ITW Welding Products, Lincoln Electric, and TPS Weldtech.

With TWI experts on hand throughout the day, there were opportunities to arrange 15-minute one-to-one meetings to discuss arc welding challenges and knowhow along with topics related to manufacturing and fabrication, robotics and process automation, welding control standards EN 1090 and ISO 3834, welding fume and EMF, and Industrial Membership of TWI.

In addition to the demonstrations, the demo day included a keynote presentation on the new welding fume legislation and how your business may be affected. The presentation was delivered by TWI welding fume exert Geoff Melton, who chairs the IIW Commission VIII on Health, Safety and the Environment as well as chairing CENELEC TC26 on electric welding equipment.

The demonstration day also provided local businesses with information on how they can benefit from free support from the Materials Integrity Transfer (MITT) project, which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Tees Valley Combined Authority.
