Hydrogen and Thermoplastics Joint Industry Project Launched

Mon, 22 January, 2024

TWI Industrial Members are invited to join a new Joint Industry Project (JIP) related to polymer selection and qualification for hydrogen service.

The project, ‘Guidelines for Testing Thermoplastic Materials’ Compatibility for High Pressure Hydrogen Service,’ was launched with a webinar on 16 January 2024, presented by TWI Senior Project Leader George Theodosopoulos with Konstantinos Vatopoulos from Saudi Aramco and Azzedine Kioul from SABIC helping answer questions on the day.

The JIP is aiming to develop consensus regarding the most robust testing procedures to determine polymer compatibility with high pressure hydrogen. The results will be presented in the form of guidance on testing for polymer selection and qualification for hydrogen service.

The output will be of use for companies involved in every stage of the hydrogen infrastructure supply chain, including resin manufacturers and end-users in industries such as energy, aerospace and automotive.

The outcomes of the project will be available to all of those who sign up to participate, reducing the need for organisations to make their own subjective judgements regarding test methods for selecting and qualifying polymeric materials for high pressure hydrogen service.

You can still sign up to join the project as well as finding out more by watching a recording of the launch webinar (below), which drew over 190 registrants and around 100 people attending on the day.
