We are hosting an online event on 22 March 2023 from 13:00-14:00 GMT on the topic of ‘Opportunities and Challenges for Hybridization of Geothermal.’
Mechanical Engineering Professor Dr Derek K. Baker of Middle East Technical University (METU) has been invited to speak at the event, where he will offer details of the Horizon Europe-funded ‘CST4ALL’ project as well as delivering information gained from the TWI collaborative ‘GeoSmart’ project.
The hybridisation of geothermal power plant resources with biomass and solar power production offers the chance for the delivery of additional green heat from excess power block capacities that arise as a result of declining geothermal reservoirs.
This webinar will explore the challenges that come from aligning the characteristics of geothermal power plants with commercial biomass and concentrating solar thermal (CST) systems.
Through the identification and exploitation of research and innovation gleaned from projects such as GeoSmart and CST4ALL, it should be possible to move closer to this resource hybridisation through the creation of synergies between different clean energy technologies that will then create collaborative follow-up activities.
