TWI Project Leaders Attend 5G-ERA Project Meeting in Brno

Tue, 19 September, 2023

On 12 and 13 of September, TWI Project Leader Alex Russell and TWI Team Manager James Redman joined the consortium for the 5G-ERA plenary meeting at the Faculty of Information Technology, Brno University of Technology, Czechia.

All partners had the opportunity to discuss project progression, with Alex presenting TWI’s developments of the manufacturing use case that will demonstrate the implementation of 5G into a robotic brazing cell. The brazing cell will use a cobot (collaborative robot) equipped with a braze paste dispensing system and a laser scanner to apply and inspect the braze paste respectively. The operator will be communicating with the brazing cell through either mixed reality or augmented reality. This use case is delivered with the support of HAL Robotics Ltd and Cal-Tek S.r.l.

The aim of the 5G-ERA Project is to provide an enhanced 5G experimentation facility and the relevant network applications for third party application developers to test and qualify their applications.

These applications will focus on robotic autonomy, which is essential for many 5G vertical sectors and can deliver multiple benefits in automated mobility, Industry 4.0 and healthcare.

You can find out more about this project on the dedicated website, here.

The 5G-ERA project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 856691
