TWI’s electron beam welding team have completed a programme of work aimed at exploring new welding capabilities on a Steigerwald EBOCAM® 15kW 150kV electron beam machine, fitted with the novel EBOBend apparatus.
The new equipment enables the electron beam to access the inside of tubes or cavities.
This is accomplished by deflecting the beam through a small 90° arc via a specially designed electromagnet.

The EBOBend equipment makes welding possible at the full power of the machine facilitating welds up to and beyond 20mm in titanium.
