TWI representatives attended the ‘Wales Nuclear Forum – Meet the Suppliers’ event held in Cardiff on 23 November 2023. This event was designed to allow organisations with interests in the nuclear industry to present their upcoming needs and issues to potential suppliers.
Membership of the Wales Nuclear Forum, and attendance at past and future events is part of TWI’s commitment to servicing our Industrial Members within the nuclear industry. Identifying specific industrial need and developing appropriate solutions has enabled TWI to be an active participant in UK nuclear provision.
During the past year, TWI has supported EDF with NDE inspection at the Sizewell B nuclear power station during a planned outage. A team from across TWI’s Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Group, based in Port Talbot, Middlesbrough and Cambridge, conducted inspection works in the reactor containment area to verify the integrity of the piping in the primary reactor circuits.
TWI is also a member of the UK SMR (Small Modular Reactor) programme, supporting Rolls-Royce SMR with multiple aspects of development for the UK’s first SMR, including manufacturing, welding and non-destructive evaluation.
