19 companies have been working together since 2019 on the GeoSmart project and you can stay updated with our progress by subscribing to the project newsletter.

Geothermal energy is an ‘always on’ resource, unlike some other renewable resources, however, because of the limited flexibility to throttle the well without causing liner fatigue and scaling, it is engineered to deliver maximal efficiencies at this output level.

To make geothermal energy fully reliable and controllable, there is a need to deliver a high level of fast flexibility. This requires the optimisation of geothermal heat and power systems through innovative improvements.

The GeoSmart team have been working to deliver improved environmental performance and energy security as well as cost reductions for the industry. This includes the investigation of biomass hybridisation, investigating the gaps in standards for geothermal energy production, and more.

You can keep up-to-date with the latest developments in the project by subscribing to the GeoSmart newsletter, here.

The GeoSmart project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement 818576.
