Professional Member Q+A: Miguel Da Fonseca EngTech TechWeldI

2023 marks the 100th anniversary of The Welding Institute and, to mark the centenary, we have been reaching out to our Professional Members to discuss the benefits of Membership and more.

Currently working as a Quality Control Manager in mining in South Africa, Miguel Da Fonseca EngTech TechWeldI achieved his International Welding Technologist (IWT) - International Institute of Welding (IIW) diploma through the South African Institute of Welding (SAIW). In addition, Miguel gained a Level 1 ‘Fabrication and Welding Inspector’ qualification and a national diploma in engineering studies, whilst also being a qualified electrician who passed with honours.

He spoke to us about his job, where he manages the quality control operations for his employer, improving resource efficiency, optimising resources and processes, and more.

Miguel also opens up about how he became involved in engineering and his career path, including moving between industries and completely changing the focus of his career. Speaking on the challenges he has faced, Miguel also reveals why he chose to join The Welding Institute in 2016 and become a Professional Member.

He also revealed the benefits of Professional Membership that he values the most and how becoming registered as an EngTech with the Engineering Council through the Institute has aided his career.

Miguel finishes his insightful interview with some excellent career advice for engineers and other professionals alike.
