New Section Manager Appointed at The Welding Institute

Thu, 30 November, 2023

The Welding Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of Lotte Larkins as the new Section Manager for Professional Membership and Accreditation. The appointment marks a significant change as Lotte takes over from her predecessor, Lois Appleyard, who held the position for several years.

Lotte brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having joined TWI in December 2005. Her journey at TWI includes roles such as administrator for the EWF/IIW Welding Diploma course and as a project leader in the NDT section. She then went on to join The Welding Institute in 2008 and has been managing the Membership Team since 2014.

We spoke with Lotte in an interview, which you can see below, allowing her to share insights into her career at The Institute, emphasising her excitement about working with both our Professional and Industrial Members, volunteers, and TWI and The Welding Institute colleagues. She highlighted the importance of adapting job profiles to individual strengths, and fostering engagement and motivation within the team.

Lotte outlined her plans for 2024, focusing on the professional development and progression of Members. One key objective is to collaborate closely with the TWI Industrial Member companies, assigning specific team members for contact and follow-up, supported by webinars and guidance initiatives.

Additionally, she stressed the need for increased support from Institute volunteers, especially for processing professional applications.

In 2024, The Institute plans to run additional volunteer training sessions and invite Members with Engineering Council registration to contribute to this essential aspect of their work.

Lotte also expressed her commitment to continuing events, webinars, and technical group talks as The Institute aims to enhance engagement with branches, support international Members through the international working group, and resume approvals and accreditation activities.

She also highlighted ongoing efforts to collaborate with educational institutions and employer groups, pushing for approved welding qualifications suitable for the industry beyond 2024, as The Welding Institute plans to develop new schemes for recruiting Members and expand Member benefits to secure the Institute’s future.

We would like to congratulate Lotte on her new role and you can see her interview in full, below:
