Members of the IMPHORAA project team held an event in the Philippines to present the concept of this innovative and life-changing project.
Taking place at the Shangri-la Hotel The Fort, Manila on 6 February 2023, the event attracted delegates from the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC), British Embassy and the Department of Science and Technology.
Representatives of project consortium members TWI (UK), Nanoé (Madagascar), Quantum Leap (Philippines) and Brunel University (UK), all presented at the event which was covered by journalists from the Global Daily Mirror TV and the Business Mirror newspaper.

The event was introduced by TWI Ltd Group Manager and Event Chair, Heidi Dyson, who welcomed the attendees and introduced the event participants.

Once the introductions were completed, TWI’s Director of Membership and Innovation, Professor Tat-Hean Gan provided an overview of the IMPHORAA project on behalf of fellow project partners Technovative Solutions Ltd.
The IMPHORAA project promises to deliver a range of positive social impacts for rural off-grid communities, including water purification and sanitisation, energy security, affordable and decentralised clean energy, increased entrepreneurial opportunities, equality of access to energy, empowerment for women, environmental benefits, and more.

Dr Sadik Omairey, Senior Research Fellow at Brunel University London was next to take to the stage as he presented the IMPHORAA business model, which was originally developed for use in Madagascar and is now being extended to benefit communities in the Philippines.

The initial work on lateral electrification in Madagascar was elaborated upon by the next speaker, Nicolas Saincy, Co-founder of Nanoé Madagascar. During his presentation, Nicolas shared the experiences and achievements of the IMPHORAA project in Madagascar, giving an insight into how these are being rolled out to help people in the Philippines too.

The talks finished with John Defensor, President of Quantum Leap JMB Mktg Inc (QLM), who presented in more detail on the topic of IMPHORAA in the Philippines and what’s in it for off-grid communities in the region.

The event concluded with some closing remarks before the participants were invited to join an informal networking opportunity to ask questions and discuss the project further.
