Advanced NDT Software using the TWI Crystal SDK

Tue, 09 November, 2021

TWI are pleased to announce the launch of CrystalTM 2.0. A complete data acquisition and analysis software package, which is used in conjunction with a range of third party ultrasonic hardware (such as the Peak NDT LTPA and Micropulse systems). Built over a number of years, TWI CrystalTM offers the user access to the most advanced ultrasonic inspection methods on the market including Full Matrix Capture (FMC), Virtual Source Aperture (VSA) and Plane Wave Imaging (PWI) with advanced algorithms for calibration, and real-time data reconstruction.

This latest release of TWI CrystalTM includes software updates for faster data acquisition and a new method of calibration. The viewport has also been updated, allowing for multiple customisable data visualising windows to be displayed concurrently. New methods for defect logging and auto-reporting functionality have been added. Additionally, the flexibility offered by the new Crystal 2.0 Software Development Kit (SDK) architecture paves the way for more advanced features to be added, such as 3-dimensional FMC inspection using robots.

Based on the already successful Crystal TWI software offering, Crystal 2.0 includes the Crystal SDK. This allows users to pick and choose aspects of a wide range of functionality to suit their specific inspection needs. This functionality extends far beyond previous versions of Crystal, and can be tied together using a few lines of code. This functionality includes:

  • A variety of NDT sensors including ultrasonic, X-ray and radar
  • Data acquisition hardware
  • Encoders such as robots, 3D camera tracking systems and crawlers
  • Data processing algorithms for calibration and inspection
  • Advanced data viewport
  • Analysis techniques
