TWI’s leading failure investigation expert, chartered polymer and adhesive engineer, Dr Farshad Salamat-Zadeh CEng MweldI hosted a webinar about the ‘Methods for Assessing Weld Quality and Flaws in Welded Moulded Plastic Components’ on 23 July 2020
The webinar provided an overview of different plastic welding and joining processes, along with two failure investigation case studies and a discussion of suitable techniques for assessing weld quality.
The majority of products containing some form of joint use techniques such as welding, adhesive bonding and mechanical fastening. The choice of process is determined by the material to be joined, the strength of the joint that is needed, the level of seal required, process cost and speed, and the production quantity.
Through this webinar, a range of industry sectors were targeted, since plastic welding and joining is used for everything from automotive to household goods and medical devices.
