Lei Xu was recently appointed as TWI’s Programme Manager for China. His duties within this role include developing business and increasing TWI membership in China. This will also include developing technical projects and relationships with key industrial players. His new role is in tandem with his work as a Senior Project Leader in the Arc Processes and Welding Engineering team at TWI.
Lei graduated with a BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering which was followed with an MSc in Manufacturing Systems and a PhD in robotic arc welding. He is also a Chartered Engineer and a member of both The Welding Institute and the Institute of mechanical Engineers.
With experience in robotic arc welding and additive manufacture, Lei has led R&D projects for applications and materials from a variety of industries, including aerospace, power generation, rail, automotive, construction, shipbuilding, oil and gas and medical. In addition, he has authored and co-authored a number of journal and conference papers on welding and additive manufacturing.
