TWI Begins Mass Flow Meter Project

Mon, 02 November, 2020

TWI is pleased to announce the start of an Innovate UK funded research project entitled ‘Development of Advanced, Highly Corrosion Resistant Coriolis Mass Flow Meters (Adv-Flow).’ The project is led by KROHNE Limited, with partners TWI and Langley Alloys. The project will investigate advancements in the manufacture of large size Coriolis mass flow meters to meet demanding conditions for KROHNE. The project will focus on the development of a suitable manufacturing route to manufacture the flow meters from super duplex stainless steel.

TWI will lead activities related to heat treatment, vacuum brazing and characterisation using our large vacuum brazing facilities in Cambridge. As the original inventors of duplex materials back in the 1970s, Langley Alloys will be supporting with material characterisation and testing. The key project objective is to achieve a sound joint whilst being able to retain the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the base materials. This is an exciting opportunity to develop a vacuum brazed product for service in a hostile environment.

The Adv-Flow project has received funding from Innovate UK under grant agreement No 44532
