TWI Introduces Friction Stir Channelling to ATI Conference

Wed, 20 November, 2019

Industrial Membership Group Manager, Richard Freeman presented at the second Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) Conference in Birmingham.

Richard presented on Friction Stir Channelling, a new innovative solid state welding technique which allows for the integration of sub-surface networks in aluminium structures. These networks allow for improved thermal management as well as light-weighting of the structures themselves.

The event, which ran on 19-20 November, 2019 addressed two main themes; the technological challenges and opportunities facing the global industry today and new horizons and disruptive changes in future air transport systems.

The ATI was formed in 2014 and promotes transformative technology in air transport and funds world class research and development through a £3.9 billion joint government-industry programme.
