Navantia Webinar on Acoustic Emission Testing
Time: 11am, Spain/10am, UK
Acoustic emission are the stress waves generated when material changes when a structure is exposed to external stimulus, such as pressure, load or temperature change. These waves propagate within the bounds of the structure and sensors mounted enable their detection. By using an array of sensors the source location to be predicted. Further analysis of this data enables the health the structure to be assessed, through methods such as signal classification and statistical analysis. Application of Acoustic Emission can be very beneficial as part of a structural health monitoring strategy on an asset, or as part of component development and validation.
This webinar will cover how acoustic emission works, where it is generally applied in industry and the ongoing work in the field at TWI. Some key areas of focus will be:
• Corrosion and Hydrogen Induced Cracking detection
• Monitoring in extreme environments
• Fatigue testing of welds
