Research and development across the Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) spectrum

Each of our Centre models: the National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC), Innovation Centres and Private Technology Innovation Partnerships (PTIPs), supports the research and development (R&D) of new technologies, systems, products and processes.  In conjunction with the application of Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 1-9, this ensures a rich pipeline of novel concepts that can be moved through the R&D, prototyping and testing phases to commercial assessment, scale-up and market entry.

By joining us at different stages of the journey, our academic and industrial partners, TWI Industrial and Innovation Network (TWIIN) Members, and associates in the UK, Europe and beyond, are able to accelerate their innovation activities through collaborative working, grant (public) funding opportunities, forming new relationships with like-minded companies, joining our programmes and more.  Being part of the TWIIN ecosystem also opens up access to R&D in key technology areas such as additive manufacturing, robotics and automation, net zero and green technologies, composites and materials, and advanced welding processes.

Each of our Centres focuses on a particular area, or areas, of expertise – explore them below.
