The Materials Integrity Technology Transfer (MITT) programme delivers free business support to companies in the Tees Valley region. Managed by TWI, it is a component of the Tees Valley Centre for Materials Integrity Programme, which is part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020) and Tees Valley Combined Authority.
TWI
TWI is a membership-based organisation, supporting both individuals and companies alike, providing authoritative and impartial expert advice, knowhow and safety assurance through engineering, materials and joining technologies – to help design, create and operate the best products possible. Descended from the British Welding Research Association (BWRA), TWI has grown into one of the foremost independent research and technology organisations, spanning innovation, knowledge transfer and problem resolution across all aspects of welding, joining, surface engineering, inspection and whole-life integrity management.
Established in 1946, TWI has facilities across the globe, including a Technology and Training Centre in Middlesbrough. This local facility is an extension of the resources at the TWI company headquarters in Cambridge, with specially designed training suites and state-of-the-art equipment for underwater inspection, plastics joining, coatings technology, numerical modelling, weld inspection and non-destructive testing applications.
As a non-profit distributing company, limited by guarantee and owned by its Members, TWI offers independent advice and is internationally renowned for employing multidisciplinary teams to implement established or advanced joining technology or to solve problems arising at any stage - from initial design, materials selection, production and quality assurance, through to service performance and repair.
TWI also assists in the production of standards in the interest of its Member companies and has representatives on more than 60 International, American and European committees and over 50 British Standard drafting groups.
The Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA)
The Tees Valley Combined Authority was created in April 2016 to drive economic growth and job creation in the area. A partnership of five authorities, Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, and Stockton-on-Tees, the TVCA works closely with the Local Enterprise Partnership, wider business community and other partners to make decisions to support the growth of the local economy.
European Regional Development Fund
The ERDF finances programmes in shared responsibility between the European Commission and national and regional authorities in Member States. The Member States' administrations choose which projects to finance and take responsibility for day-to-day management.
