Webinar-Array Ultrasonic Imaging Techniques

Wed, 18 March, 2026

TWI India successfully hosted a technical webinar on “Array Ultrasonic Imaging Techniques for Improved Detection and Sizing of Flaws in Welds” on 13 March 2026. The session brought together industry professionals from across sectors, offering a comprehensive understanding of advanced ultrasonic inspection methodologies and their application in real-world weld evaluation.

The webinar focused on the evolving landscape of non-destructive testing (NDT), highlighting how modern techniques are significantly enhancing the reliability and accuracy of weld inspections. Participants were introduced to advanced Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) methods, with a particular emphasis on Full Matrix Capture (FMC) and Total Focusing Method (TFM).

A key highlight of the session was building a strong foundational appreciation of the PAUT technique, enabling attendees to understand its advantages over conventional ultrasonic testing. The webinar further explored Full Matrix Capture (FMC) as an advanced ultrasonic data acquisition process, followed by an in-depth overview of Total Focusing Method (TFM), a powerful post-processing algorithm that enhances imaging quality and defect characterization.

To bridge theory with practice, the session included a review of illustrative examples showcasing data collected from weldments using PAUT and FMC/TFM techniques. These real-world case studies helped participants better interpret inspection data and understand how advanced imaging contributes to improved defect detection and more accurate sizing.

Designed for NDT inspectors, inspection managers, quality control professionals, third-party inspectors, and plant inspection teams, the webinar served as a valuable platform for knowledge enhancement. It enabled participants to stay aligned with the latest advancements in inspection technologies and reinforced the importance of adopting modern techniques for improved safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.

TWI India remains committed to supporting industry professionals through such knowledge-sharing initiatives, empowering them to stay at the forefront of technological advancements in welding inspection and non-destructive testing.
