TWI India successfully conducted a technical webinar titled “Welder Certification in IBR-1950” on 23 January 2026. The session was specifically designed for design engineers, shop engineers, and quality control professionals engaged in boiler manufacturing and related activities governed by the Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR) 1950.
The webinar aimed to build clarity around the regulatory framework of the Boiler Act and IBR-1950, with a focused emphasis on welder qualification, testing, and certification requirements. Given the critical role of welding in boiler construction and safety, the session addressed common challenges faced by industry professionals in understanding compliance obligations and statutory processes.
During the session, participants were provided with a structured overview of the Boiler Act and IBR-1950, including key definitions and the roles of statutory authorities involved in boiler inspection and certification. Special attention was given to explaining who is authorised to certify welders under IBR, the responsibilities of Competent Authorities, and the regulatory expectations for manufacturers and contractors.
Key topics covered in the webinar included:
- An overview of the Boiler Act and IBR-1950
- Important definitions and statutory entities in boiler inspection
- Welder certification authority as per IBR
- IBR welder testing and certification requirements
- Applicable IBR forms used for welder certification
The webinar also highlighted IBR Chapter XIII, detailing essential variables, testing methods, validity, renewal of certificates, and documentation requirements. Practical insights into examination methods, qualification ranges, and compliance best practices were shared to help participants align shop-floor practices with regulatory expectations.
This knowledge-sharing initiative reflects TWI India’s continued commitment to supporting the Indian boiler and pressure equipment industry through structured technical training, regulatory awareness, and industry-relevant guidance. The webinar enabled participants to strengthen their understanding of IBR compliance, reduce ambiguity in certification processes, and apply best practices in welder qualification within boiler manufacturing environments.
