TWI India Hosts Guest Lecture at REC, Chennai

Thu, 24 July, 2025

TWI India successfully conducted a knowledge-sharing session at Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai, on 23 July 2025, offering an insightful guest lecture and live demonstration of TWI Knowledge Bus. This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry practices for students from the Mechanical, Automotive, Mechatronics, and Aeronautical Engineering departments.

The session was led by two senior experts from TWI India:

  • Mr. Manoj Kumar Patra, Convention NDT Manager
  • Mr. Sathish Murugan, Advanced NDT Manager

Together, they delivered an engaging and comprehensive lecture on key industry topics including Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Welding, Industrial Painting/Coatings, and Career Progression in the engineering and inspection sectors. Students were introduced to fundamental and advanced concepts, industry standards, and practical challenges associated with these critical disciplines.

The speakers also provided valuable insights into career paths in the field of quality assurance, testing, and inspection, outlining how students can position themselves for global opportunities through skill development and certifications. Their real-world examples and experience-based teaching added tremendous value to the session.

A major attraction of the event was the TWI Knowledge Bus – a first-of-its-kind mobile training and demo facility equipped with industry-grade tools and equipment. Students got an opportunity to witness live demonstrations of inspection techniques, tools used in NDT and welding quality control, and understand how these practices are implemented across various industries including aerospace, automotive, energy, and infrastructure.

The live demo brought classroom learning to life and encouraged students to explore hands-on technical education. It also showcased TWI’s commitment to making advanced training more accessible, especially to future engineers at the academic level.

Students shared overwhelmingly positive feedback:

“The lecture was very informative and gave us clarity on how NDT and welding are used in real industries.”

Akhil R., Mechanical Engineering Student

“Seeing the tools and equipment inside the Knowledge Bus was an eye-opener. It made the theory much more understandable.”

Divya S., Mechatronics Department

“I really appreciated the career guidance part. Now I know what skills I need to build a career in this field.”

Sneha V., Automotive Engineering

Through this initiative, TWI India continues to contribute to the academic ecosystem by equipping students with practical exposure and the latest knowledge aligned with industry demands.
