Course outline
- Introduction & brief history of ASME BPVC and referenced sections
- ASME Certificate of Authorisation, Certification Mark and Authorised Inspection
- Subsection A: General requirements (materials, design, fabrication, examination, inspection, testing, stamping, certification)
- Design rules: loading conditions, MAWP, design temperature, MDMT
- Materials selection, fabrication methods, impact testing and exemptions
- Inspection, NDE and pressure testing practices
- Subsection B: Specific requirements for welded vessels — weld joint categories, joint efficiency, welded connections, NDT
- Requirements for lethal service and low-temperature applications
- Subsection C & D: Material-specific requirements — carbon steel, low alloy and high alloy steels; heat treatment and exemptions
- Mandatory Appendices: flange design, supplementary design formulas, quality control systems, designer qualifications, applicable code editions
- Special topics: jacketed vessels, non-circular vessels, bellows expansion joints, heat exchangers
Prerequisites
Practical experience in boiler and pressure vessel manufacturing is desirable to maximise learning outcomes.
Assessment & Certification
Participants will undergo a formal examination. Successful candidates will receive a joint certificate issued by ASME and TWI India.
