Essentials of ASME BPVC Section I — Power Boiler

Who should attend

  • Design Engineers
  • Shop Engineers & Welding Engineers
  • QA/QC and NDT Engineers
  • Materials & Procurement Engineers
  • Functional Heads and Managers involved in boiler and pressure vessel manufacturing

Why attend

This course offers a clear and practical understanding of ASME Section I requirements for power boilers. Participants will gain the ability to interpret and apply rules relating to design, materials, fabrication, examination, inspection, testing and certification. Delegates will be better prepared to support compliant manufacture, inspection activities, and ASME certification processes.

What you will learn

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the scope and structure of ASME BPVC Section I and its application to power boilers.
  • Recognise code requirements for materials, welding, fabrication, examination and NDE.
  • Interpret rules for design loading and basic component design (tubes, heads, ligaments, boiler external piping).
  • Apply requirements for fire-tube, water-tube and welded boilers.
  • Identify manufacturer responsibilities, including documentation, stamping, Manufacturer’s Data Reports and the ASME certification path.

Course content

  • Introduction & history of ASME BPVC — referenced sections and how ASME works with manufacturers.
  • Part PG — General requirements: materials, design, fabrication, inspection, testing, stamping and certification.
  • Design basics: design loading, tubing, heads, ligaments and boiler external piping.
  • Parts PW, PWT, PFT: requirements for welded, water-tube and fire-tube boilers — materials, joints, attachments, openings and tubes.
  • Other boiler types: Parts PMB, PEB, PFB & PHRSG (miniature, electric, economisers, HRSGs).
  • Fabrication, welding & PWHT: procedures, qualifications and post-weld heat treatment guidance.
  • Inspection & NDE: PT/MT methods, NDE requirements and best practices.
  • Testing & certification: pressure testing, stamping, Manufacturer’s Data Reports and ASME Certification Mark.

Assessment & Certification

  • Assessment: Formal examination at the end of the course.
  • Certification: Successful delegates receive a joint certificate from ASME and TWI India.

Prerequisites

Practical experience in boiler and pressure vessel manufacturing is recommended to maximise learning outcomes.
