Learning objectives 

By completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the basic principles of visual, magnetic particle, penetrant, radiographic, ultrasonic and eddy current testing.
  • Select suitable NDT techniques for different materials, defect types and positions.
  • Use proprietary instruments and apply surface inspection methods.
  • Carry out internal examination techniques including radiography and ultrasonic flaw detection.
  • Interpret NDT findings for fabrication and welding applications. 

Course outline

  • Introduction to NDT and its role in fabrication and quality control
  • Visual Inspection: techniques, limitations and applications
  • Surface methods: Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Eddy Current Testing (ET): principles and practical applications
  • Radiographic Testing (RT): X- and gamma-radiography methods for internal examination
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT): flaw detection and weld inspection
  • Choice of methods based on materials, geometry and defect type
  • Practical demonstrations and supervised hands-on sessions (70% of course time)

Prerequisites

Basic high school education is sufficient. No prior NDT experience required. The course is designed for beginners and those looking to start a career in inspection and quality control.

 

Assessment & Certification

Participants will be assessed through a formal examination. On successful completion, delegates receive a joint certificate from ASME and TWI India.
