Webinar on Joining Technologies for Thermoplastic Materials

Fri, 31 July, 2026

TWI South East Asia successfully hosted an insightful webinar titled “Joining Technology for Thermoplastic” on 7 July 2026, bringing together industry professionals and individuals interested in plastic welding technologies. The session was presented by Ahmad Izzat Bin Anuar, M.Eng in Structural Integrity, International Welding Engineer (IIW-IWE), CSWIP 3.2.1 Senior Welding Inspector and CSWIP 3.0P Visual Plastic Welding Inspector.

The webinar provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the key joining technologies used for thermoplastic materials across a range of industrial applications. Attendees explored the principles, applications, advantages and limitations of several widely used welding processes, including Butt Fusion, Socket Fusion, Electrofusion, Hot Gas Welding and Extrusion Welding. The presentation also highlighted the critical welding parameters required to achieve reliable, high-quality joints for materials such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), PVC and PVDF.

In addition to explaining the practical aspects of thermoplastic welding, the webinar introduced participants to TWI SEA’s training and certification opportunities in plastic welding. The session covered available CSWIP Plastic Pipe Welder certifications as well as TWI’s Certificate of Completion: Revolutionising Manufacturing with Plastic Welding, outlining course content, entry requirements and the practical skills participants can expect to develop.

The webinar concluded with an overview of the wider range of plastic welding courses available through TWI, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to supporting industry professionals with internationally recognised training and certification.

Through webinars such as this, TWI SEA continues to provide accessible technical knowledge and professional development opportunities, helping engineers, inspectors and welding personnel stay informed on evolving technologies and industry best practices in plastic welding.
