TWI Malaysia continues to strengthen its international presence by delivering specialised welding training in Papua New Guinea, supporting the growing demand for skilled welding professionals across the region. The training programme was conducted in response to a client request, reflecting TWI Malaysia’s commitment to providing high-quality technical training and workforce development solutions beyond borders.
The programme combined both theoretical and practical welding training, enabling participants to enhance their welding knowledge, technical understanding, and hands-on skills. Designed to meet industry requirements, the training focused on developing competency in conventional welding processes widely used across various industrial sectors.
During the theoretical sessions, participants were introduced to key welding processes including Manual Metal Arc (MMA), MIG/MAG, and TIG welding. The sessions provided comprehensive insights into fundamental welding principles, welding terminology, and industry best practices essential for safe and effective welding operations.
The training also covered important technical topics such as weld joint design, welding terms and definitions, and welding safety requirements. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the importance of proper welding preparation, including joint preparation methods and appropriate filler metal selection based on base material classification. In addition, the programme highlighted the critical role of destructive testing and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) in ensuring weld integrity and maintaining quality standards.
The practical training sessions were conducted on-site, where participants received direct guidance on welding machine usage, equipment setup, and correct parameter settings. Trainers demonstrated proper welding techniques and provided hands-on coaching to help participants apply theoretical knowledge in real working conditions.
Participants were also guided on the responsibilities and best practices required before, during, and after welding activities. This included material preparation, welding execution, and post-weld considerations to help achieve sound weld quality and improve overall workmanship.
Through initiatives such as this, TWI Malaysia continues to support industries across the Asia-Pacific region by delivering internationally recognised training and technical expertise that contribute to safer operations, improved weld quality, and enhanced workforce capability.
