Developing strong welding skills requires more than technical knowledge. It also requires a clear understanding of safe working practices, hands-on experience and the confidence to apply what has been learned in the workplace.
For Maharajshimithira A /P Maniam, attending TWI’s Basic Welding Package, covering Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), provided an opportunity to strengthen her welding knowledge and practical skills.
Held from 3 to 7 August 2026, the training introduced key principles across three widely used welding processes, while placing strong emphasis on safety and practical application.
Emphasis on safety and practical learning
One of the aspects Maharajshimithira found most valuable was the focus on safety norms throughout the training. Understanding and applying safe working practices is an essential part of developing competency in welding, helping learners build the right habits from the outset.
She found the course content relevant to her industry and confirmed that the training addressed her learning needs and preferences. The practical skills and knowledge gained during the course also provided her with learning that she can apply in her job.
“The training was relevant to my industry and provided practical skills and knowledge that I can apply in my work. The emphasis on safety norms was particularly valuable”
Learning from experienced instruction
Effective training is supported by clear instruction and useful learning materials. Maharajshimithira rated the instructor’s effectiveness 9 out of 10, highlighting the positive learning experience provided during the course.
The training materials also supported her understanding of the concepts covered, helping to reinforce the technical and practical elements of the programme.
Supporting future welding professionals
TWI’s welding training is designed to help learners develop the knowledge, practical skills and safety awareness needed to progress in their careers. By combining technical instruction with practical learning, programmes such as the Basic Welding Package can provide participants with a strong foundation across multiple welding processes.
For Maharajshimithira, the experience was a positive step towards strengthening her welding capabilities, and she would recommend TWI training to colleagues looking to develop their own skills and knowledge.
Her experience highlights the value of structured, industry-relevant training in supporting individuals as they build confidence and competence for the workplace.
