TWI Malaysia - Webinar on Welding Refresher Course

On 29 April 2025, TWI Malaysia successfully conducted a highly engaging and informative webinar titled “Refresher Course for Welding Inspectors and Senior Welding Inspectors”, designed specifically for professionals preparing for their 10-year CSWIP recertification.

The webinar was led by Junaidi Minhat, Senior Lecturer and Key Leader of the Welding Inspection Department at TWI Malaysia. Participants from across the region joined the session to refresh their technical knowledge, gain insights into the latest CSWIP scheme updates, and better understand the requirements for certification renewal.

What the Webinar Covered:

The session began with an overview of TWI’s global training capabilities and the history and value of CSWIP certification, which has supported over 50,000 professionals worldwide in welding inspection and related disciplines.

A key highlight was the explanation of the revised 10-year recertification scheme, including:

  • A shift from traditional plate practicals to 8-segment-based assessments
  • Updated multi-level acceptance criteria (Categories A, B, and C)
  • Continuation of the familiar theory exam format
  1. Comparison of Initial and Renewal Schemes

Attendees gained clarity on the documentation and processes required for 5-year renewals versus 10-year recertification, reinforcing the importance of early preparation and compliance.

Junaidi emphasized that with significant changes in the practical component of the exam, undergoing a refresher course boosts success rates and ensures candidates are exam-ready.

TWI Malaysia highlighted flexible training options:

  • Face-to-face refresher classes held just before exam dates
  • E-learning platforms allowing participants to study theory at their own pace and schedule practical sessions at a nearby TWI facility

The session concluded with an open Q&A, where participants received expert answers to their specific queries about the recertification process, exam preparation, and training options.
