Our People: Muhammad Islam - 15 Years of Excellence

Fri, 16 January, 2026

Muhammad Islam is a mechanical engineering professional and senior technical lecturer with more than 15 years of continuous service at TWI, having joined the organisation in 2011. His teaching career is underpinned by extensive field experience across multinational operators, EPC contractors, and major oil and gas infrastructure programmes.

Prior to joining TWI, Muhammad contributed to several high-profile international projects, most notably the BOTAS Turkey 1,800 km / 46-inch multipurpose pipeline, as well as assignments across Russia’s Sakhalin Island, where he executed work under extreme climatic exposure with ambient temperatures reaching –45°C. These roles strengthened his capability in quality assurance, HSE compliance, project execution, and cross-cultural collaboration.

Since 2011, Muhammad has delivered specialist training across the Middle East, Africa, and Azerbaijan, supporting industry competency development in line with the global standards and best practices. He is formally approved to deliver an extensive portfolio of training programmes, including:

  • CSWIP Welding Inspection 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2.2
  • Welding Quality / Coordinator (WQC)
  • BGAS-CSWIP Painting Inspection Grades 3, 2 and 1

Beyond his teaching responsibilities, Muhammad plays a critical role in assessment integrity. As a qualified examination invigilator, he oversees and facilitates examinations in strict compliance for the CSWIP welding and underwater inspection certifications.

Muhammad has been collaborating effectively with multiple TWI leadership and management teams, navigating organisational growth and structural changes and evolving accreditation requirements. His approach integrates innovation, digitalisation, and evidence-based teaching methodology to enhance the learner’s journey.

The global transition during the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated his resilience and adaptability as he pioneered and successfully migrated from a predominantly face-to-face teaching delivery model to remote and virtual learning platforms, ensuring training continuity while maintaining TWI’s pedagogical and examination standards.

Muhammad has trained thousands of professionals—ranging from early-career technicians to senior-level professionals. His previous learners would reconnect years later to acknowledge his influence or pursue higher certification levels—an enduring measure of his professional impact.

Muhammad remains committed to advancing his competency in the engineering, welding, inspection, and integrity sectors, actively contributing to TWI’s global mission of delivering technical excellence and upholding the highest standards of professional training delivery, thereby shaping the industry landscape.
