Wed, 04 March, 2026

Nsimbe Laban is a Welding Inspector currently working with the COOEC and CPECC Joint Venture (CCJV), where he is responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of welded piping systems through detailed inspection and testing. With a background in mechanical engineering and practical field experience, Laban is building a strong career in welding inspection to contribute to major oil and gas developments.

Laban holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and began his career in welding inspection at Sugar Corporation of Uganda Limited, where he worked from January 2022 to March 2024. In April 2024, he joined COOEC and CPECC Joint Venture (CCJV) as a Welding Inspector, where he continues to develop his inspection expertise in an industrial project environment.

In his role, Laban does inspection of all piping material, performs piping fit-up and weld visual inspections, conducts nondestructive testing and Post weld heat treatment of piping joints, conducts welder qualification tests, and WPS qualifications. His work plays an important role in ensuring compliance with project requirements and maintaining high-quality standards.

Laban’s interest in welding inspection is driven by his ambition to contribute to major infrastructure developments. He explains:

“I am interested in this field because I am preparing to contribute to upcoming oil and gas projects in Uganda and other countries.”

To further develop his skills and qualifications, Laban undertook the CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector course. He chose this certification to strengthen his professional standing and expand his role within inspection activities.

“I chose to pursue the CSWIP 3.1 course to become a certified Welding Inspector and to fully participate in project activities, including signing fit-up reports, weld visual inspection reports, and PWHT reports,” he says.

The certification supports his long-term career development by enabling him to take on greater responsibilities and access more advanced opportunities within the industry.

“The CSWIP 3.1 certification will enhance my career progression by officially qualifying me as a Welding Inspector, increasing my responsibilities, credibility, and opportunities to work on larger oil and gas projects.”

The training also benefits his employer by ensuring that inspection activities are carried out by a qualified and internationally recognized professional.

“The certification benefits my employer by ensuring that inspection activities are carried out by a qualified and internationally recognized Welding Inspector, improving quality control and compliance with project standards.”

Looking ahead, he plans to gain more hands-on experience and progress towards higher-level qualifications.

“My next step in career progression is to gain more practical inspection experience and advance to higher-level certifications such as CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector.”

Reflecting on his experience at TWI, Laban spoke positively about both the training delivery and environment.

“I found the lecturers to be highly knowledgeable, experienced, and very clear in their explanations. The facilities were well-organized, comfortable, and suitable for effective learning. I would recommend TWI as a training provider because of their high training standards and experienced instructors.”

Laban is guided by a strong sense of responsibility in his work and professional development:

“Quality is not an act, but a responsibility.”
