Career journeys are rarely linear. For Cosmos Nyamewotum Mensah, what began as a background in statistics evolved into a passion for welding inspection and quality assurance. Today, as a QA/QC Inspector, he is strengthening his technical expertise through the internationally recognised CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector programme with TWI Middle East, equipping himself to deliver higher standards of quality, safety, and productivity across fabrication projects.

Discovering a passion for welding inspection

Cosmos holds a Bachelor of Technology in Statistics, bringing a strong analytical foundation to his professional career. During his National Service with the Ghana Armed Forces, he was introduced to fabrication and welding by a colleague who demonstrated how mathematical thinking and precision could be applied to dimensional inspection, welder qualification, and non-destructive testing (NDT).

That experience sparked a passion for quality assurance and set him on a new professional path.

Delivering quality across fabrication projects

As a QA/QC Inspector at Harlequin International LTD, Cosmos is responsible for ensuring quality throughout the fabrication process. His role combines technical inspection, documentation, and compliance to help maintain safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.

His responsibilities include:

• Fabrication and welding inspection
• Blasting and coating inspection
• Material inspection and traceability
• Calibration of measuring instruments
• NDT coordination
• Welding procedure verification
• Dimensional inspection
• Document control and reporting
• HSE compliance and safety monitoring
• Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR)
