CPD Modules Available with Brunel University

Fri, 20 October, 2023

Brunel University and NSIRC have a range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses for engineering professionals seeking career development opportunities.

The courses offer industry-focused, credit-bearing training that supports career progression and professional engineering qualifications, including Chartership application.

The CPD courses are aligned with the industry-based MSc programmes offered by Brunel University in Structural Integrity (Asset Reliability Management), Lightweight Structures and Impact Engineering, and Oil and Gas Engineering at NSIRC, just outside the city of Cambridge.

The courses are designed as modules of one to two weeks, with 30-35 contact hours and a combination of varying activities, including tutorials, computational/experimental lab sessions, lectures, and case studies.

Offered in-person at the NSIRC facility at TWI Ltd, Cambridge, the courses also provide students with an opportunity for dual/hybrid learning. The preferred delivery mode is in-person, and any applicant interested in hybrid learning is advised to contact Brunel for more information on requirements and module timings.

The CPD modules are industry-focused, designed to help participants gain concrete skill sets that will support career aspirations, as well as academic progression towards a Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert), Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip), Master of Science (MSc), or other forms of higher education.

Assessments are carried out through a combination of reports, posters and oral presentations, practical and written exams, as well as individual and group assignments.

Interested applicants should have an internationally recognised qualification equivalent to, or in the UK, as a minimum, a 2:2 Honours degree in the field of engineering, mathematics, or physics.

Relevant industry experience may be offset against academic requirements. While the course is taught in English, there is no formal English language requirement, but it is essential that applicants should be able to communicate in English and understand the standards GCSE grade C, or have an IELTS score of 6.5 with an overall 6 in skills.

The courses will charge a fee on a per-module basis, with the fee determined by the module credits of 10, 15, 20, and 30. For the academic year 2022/23, students from the European Union will be eligible for the same tuition fee option as UK students.
