TWI is proud to have once again sponsored the annual Materials Science Literature Review Prize which is awarded by the editors of Materials Science and Technology. This prize aims to encourage definitive, critical reviews of the literature by students, while also making these available to a wider readership through publication in the journal. Materials Science and Technology is an official journal of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), published by Taylor & Francis.
The winner of the 2018 Literature Review Prize was Diptak Bhattacharya from the Colorado School of Mines, for his review ‘Liquid Metal Embrittlement during Resistance Spot Welding of Zn-coated High Strength Steels’.
There were also two runner-up awards, which went to Frank Niessen from the Technical University of Denmark for ‘Austenite reversion in low-carbon martensitic stainless steels - a CALPHAD-assisted review,’ and Boning Ding of the University of Cambridge for ‘Improving Radiative Recombination Efficiency of Green Light-Emitting Diodes.’
TWI gave £500 as sponsorship for the awards, which will be split among the winning authors as prize money, and we would like to congratulate all three winners for their award-winning work.
