TWI held a successful seminar on ageing bridges on 20 February, 2019. The event saw key speakers from the construction industry and TWI experts sharing information on matters including life extension, inspection, repair and major projects.
55 attendees were present for the seminar, which was chaired by fatigue and integrity management expert Martin Ogle.
Attendees included representatives from Costain Group PLC, Skanska, Air Products PLC, Freyssinet, Sonats, COWI, Connect Plus Services, E.T.S. Sistemi Industriali, ATC, Structural Safety, Highways England, Markwell Trading Services, Mechatronics, CIRIA, LSBIC, Speciality Enterprises (T/A) Weldcraft-Pro, Air Control Entech, The Spencer Group, Welding Alloys Group, and ARUP.
Industry speakers included Francis McKeown (Highways England), Paul McNulty (Structural Safety), Graham Stanford (Freyssinet), Joanna Bonnett (COWI), and Olessia Quere (Sonats).
The seminar was well-received and highlighted the challenges faced in this field by industry and TWI’s capabilities and expertise in relation to construction infrastructure, while emphasising and enhancing our relationship within the construction industry sector.
Attendees left positive feedback on the seminar, including such comments as, “The event topic is very relevant and important. There is a real need to discuss how we manage ageing bridges.”
