First year A level physics students visit TWI

Mon, 18 February, 2019

On 12th February, TWI was pleased to welcome students from Long Road Sixth Form College physics classes.

In the morning, engineer Matt Haslett led the students on a tour of TWI facilities, where they were particularly fascinated by the laser welding gun. Alongside this, Dr Philippa Moore and Jess Taylor led an aircraft failure investigation workshop for the students to learn more in-depth about the work carried out at TWI.

In the afternoon, Matt and Jess ran a robotics workshop using Lego Mindstorms, during which the students designed, built and programmed security gadgets. During this time, the students were able to ask any questions they had about careers and university studies in engineering.

More than half of the students have plans to study engineering at university level, and this experience gave them an insight into future career paths for engineers and a fun introduction to the work of TWI.

You can find out more about the visit on the Long Road Sixth Form website.
