TWI, the inventors of friction stir welding (FSW), now run regular FSW training courses in the UK.
Offered at Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced level, the TWI Award in Friction Stir Welding programme covers everything there is to know about the solid-state joining process.
Invented by TWI in 1991 the versatility of FSW technology makes it well suited to a wide variety of industry sectors, including aerospace, automotive, marine, and computer hardware.
The next FSW training courses are scheduled for September 2016 at TWI’s Rotherham Technology Centre, UK. Places are limited so early booking is recommended.

Friction stir welding, invented by Wayne Thomas at TWI in 1991, overcomes many of the problems associated with traditional joining techniques.
It is a solid-state process which produces welds of high quality in difficult-to-weld materials such as aluminium, and is fast becoming the process of choice for manufacturing lightweight transport structures such as boats, trains and aeroplanes.
