The Welding Institute’s Annual Awards and Dinner took place on 28 June 2016 at King’s College, Cambridge, with nearly 200 invited guests from industry and academia. The event began with an awards presentation ceremony presided over by TWI Associate Director of Professional Affairs, Chris Eady with invited presenters including The Welding Institute’s President, Bertil Pekkari, with Graham Nix, Jack Willingham, Paul Howdle, Richard Dolby OBE, Craig Hunt, Nick Marshall and Peter Bateman.

Guest speaker for the evening was Chief Executive of The Lloyd’s Register Foundation, Professor Richard Clegg. Richard spoke of his organisation’s involvement with TWI over many decades and most recently as one the founder sponsors of pioneering initiatives including the National Structural Integrity Research Centre. He highlighted the importance of such close collaboration in directing engineering research and innovation to ensure that industry is best prepared for technological change.
TWI Chief Executive Christoph Wiesner thanked Richard and the guests, notably the Professional Members of The Welding Institute, Industrial Members of TWI, academic partners and business associates, acknowledging their contributions during the evening and their role in the continued progress and success of the organisation.
