TWI continues its commitment to support businesses seeking to exploit additive manufacturing (AM) technology with a conference next month.
Delegates are invited to attend the one-day conference which organisers hope will stimulate discussion and business networking opportunities as well as provide opportunities to learn more on how the technology could benefit their business.
The packed agenda includes speakers from industry as well as an update on the AM National Strategy. The conference will also explore capabilities in the AM field from design, materials and process development, to component manufacture, validation techniques and certification routes.
Delegates can take advantage of the conference being held on the same business park as TWI Technology Centre Yorkshire, and take an optional tour of the recently refurbished selective laser melting lab, and view the latest SLM system, the EOS M290.
TWI technical experts will also be available for one-to-one meetings following the conference’s main business.
The conference will take place at AMP Technology Centre, Advance Manufacturing Park, Brunel Way, Catcliffe, Rotherham S60 5WG on Wednesday 14 June 2017.
Benefits of additive manufacturing
With AM continuing to develop at a fast pace, innovative AM processes and applications for high-value manufacturing, accompanied by an increased focus on validation and certification of AM-produced components are coming on stream.
Industry sectors that demand customisation and accurate manufacture of complex components, all benefit from exploitation of AM. Sectors include medical, aerospace, automotive and consumer products, for example.
The exciting benefits of AM include:
- design freedom
- rapid product development
- reduced time-to-market
- repair and remanufacture of parts and tooling for reuse
- enhancement of mechanical or surface properties of parts and tooling for life and performance extension.
TWI has been working with metal AM for 25 years and has developed capabilities relating to every aspect of its use, from design, process selection and commercial implementation to testing, validation and certification.
