The Engineering Council’s annual statistics for 2015 show that The Welding Institute has achieved another yearly increase in Engineering Council registrations – despite falling numbers elsewhere.
Last year the Institute approved and elected 227 new registrants for CEng, IEng or EngTech registration with the Engineering Council, an increase in new registrations for the fourth year running and the seventh-largest number of new registrants among the 36 professional engineering institutions (PEIs).
Looking at EngTech figures alone, The Welding Institute ranks fifth when it comes to total registrants, achieving the fourth-largest number of new registrants amongst all PEIs. This is a clear indicator of the success of the Institute’s increased focus on the EngTech brand throughout the last few years. The success was mirrored by an increase in IEng registrations, resulting in the Institute moving up from tenth to sixth in the PEI rankings for new IEng registrants.
One of the challenges faced by all PEIs in recent years, which will likely continue in the years to come, is the increasing number of resignations due to the age demographics on the register. The Welding Institute was one of only seven PEIs recruiting more new registrants than those leaving.
The Welding Institute would like to extend a sincere thank you to all its members and volunteers. It exists solely for the benefit of its members and could not function at all without the dedication and selfless contributions of its many volunteers and the enthusiasm of its members in general. The Institute is grateful for all its members’ help and efforts in making it relevant and attractive to industry.
In today’s challenging global economic climate, it is particularly encouraging to see that individuals still understand and value the importance of professional membership and registration as a means to maintain and provide evidence of their competence and commitment to the industry.
The Welding Institute looks forward to hopefully continuing this very positive trend in 2016.
