The WELDCUP 2015 will bring together young welders from six European countries and one invited team from China on a contest to find the best young welders in Europe. This competition will take place at TWI's Great Abington headquarters on 21 October 2015.
The competition will feature seven teams and each team will have a limited time to produce a standard test object using a combination of MMA, MAG, TIG and FCAW techniques. The teams will be evaluated not only on the welding skills used to produce their finished test object, but also on their skills for plan reading (with knowledge of welding symbols for drawings), fitting and following the given instructions.
By participating on this competition, young welders will have a unique opportunity to exchange best practices and compare their welding skills against their peers from across Europe.
The WELDCUP 2015 is being organised and supported by TWI, The Welding Institute, EWF the European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting, Lincoln Electric UK and Air Products. These four organisations have come together to create a European Welding Competition, that will:
- Provide a positive sign for the motivation and change of direction of young people towards their occupations in welding technology.
- Make a contribution to demonstrating welding technology as a fundamental international technology of social life due to the participation of young people.
- Make a contribution to the promotion of the opportunities that exist for a welding career to younger generations.
