The Welding Institute’s Younger Members Committee is pleased to launch the 2016 Richard Dolby–Rolls-Royce Prize – a competition to find young people (under 35 years of age) who can demonstrate success in, and enthusiasm for welding, joining and/or materials engineering. A cash prize of £1000 is awarded to the winner. Entrants will submit a technical report on their chosen subjects, and shortlisted finalists will be invited by the judging panel to give a 20-minute presentation at TWI based on their projects or area of work. Nick Brown – a Surrey Engineering Doctorate (EngD) student spending four years with TWI Ltd won the Prize in 2014 for his research into an alternative way of machining composite materials.
