A group of plastic welders from a major international industrial maintenance company have become the latest engineers to benefit from TWI training.
Four employees of Boccard UK Ltd received training in a variety of joining methods from TWI's senior plastics welding trainer Andy Knight. The two-day course, which took place at Boccard's Cardiff premises, was delivered through a mixture of theoretical and practical sessions.
The main areas of expertise covered by the training were the different techniques available for joining polyethylene pipes: butt fusion, electrofusion and socket fusion welding.
This practical training was bolstered by additional teaching covering a broad range of related topics, such as relevant standards; health and safety; weld quality; visual inspection, destructive and non-destructive testing of welded systems; and processing of plastics.
Upon completing an end-of-course exam, three of the candidates were awarded with CSWIP Level II certificates, while the other gained CSWIP Level I certification matching the requirements of BS EN 13067. The four pipe welders' certification will be valid for four years, after which they will need to requalify.
TWI worked closely with Boccard UK Ltd to identify the areas of training that would most benefit the company's engineers, planning a schedule and structuring course content around their needs.
Boccard UK Ltd, provides industrial installation management services including maintenance and inspection, so the increased proficiency provided to their staff through the training should directly impact the service they are able to deliver to their customers.
