A novel method of creating holes for fasteners in composites without compromising the strength of the material will be the focus of a talk being presented by a TWI engineer in November.
Chris Worrall, principal project leader in composites, will speak about the new TWI-developed technique in his talk 'An alternative to boring thermoplastics' at the Advanced Engineering Composites Engineering Show at the NEC in Birmingham on 11-12 November 2014.
The method Chris will speak about can be used to create holes in composites without weakening the material by cutting its fibres, or risking damaging it through delamination or overheating. The technique brings advantages in speed, cost and performance.
