In August 2013 TWI Certification Limited held the first successful Familiarisation course for EN ISO 3834, 'Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials'. The course is designed for individuals and companies to gain a better understanding of the requirements in achieving compliance with EN ISO 3834.
Independent third-party certification to EN ISO 3834 benefits manufacturers by providing an authoritative third-party attestation of commercial value. The one-day course is designed to cover the Standard in simple terms, with an overview of compliance measures and requirements, guidance on the evidence that the auditor will expect to see during an audit and debugging the myth surrounding the role of ISO 14731 for the Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC).
The RWC role and level requirements are explained:
- Comprehensive technical knowledge, where full technical knowledge is required, in accordance with ISO 14731 section 6.1, for the planning, executing, supervising and testing of all tasks and responsibilities in welding fabrication
- Specific technical knowledge, where the level of technical knowledge needs to be sufficient for the planning, executing, supervising and testing of all tasks and responsibilities in welding fabrication
- Basic technical knowledge, where the level of technical knowledge needs to be sufficient for the planning, executing, supervising and testing of all tasks and responsibilities within a limited technical field, involving only simple welded structures.
