On 1 August 2013, The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) published its eagerly anticipated Offshore Wind Industrial Strategy. The document sets out the Government's clear commitment and cohesive strategy on building a strong UK offshore wind supply chain base. From our own experience of supporting the North Sea offshore oil and gas success in the last forty years, we are pleased to see many of the initiatives included in the Strategy.
We are particularly delighted with the launch of the GROW:Offshore Wind programme. We have been working with RenewableUK for the last three years on shaping the strategy to strengthen the UK manufacturing base to increase the indigenous content in the offshore wind supply chain. Now we will maintain our active support to Grant Thornton and RenewableUK in helping UK manufacturers fulfil the opportunity through this programme.
The GROW:Offshore Wind programme offers up to 50% match funding for England-based manufacturers looking to benefit from Process Technology Innovation support. TWI is in the position to assist manufacturers benefit from this funding. By offering our technologies and state-of-the art facilities, we can help to develop and prove new products or manufacturing processes at both experimental and industrial scales that could address the offshore wind market opportunities. Manufacturers can benefit from our whole-lifecycle R&D support from design, prototyping, materials selection, fabrication, assembly, testing, optimisation through to technology transfer.
