On 13th January 2013, the Chairman of Felda, Y.B. Tan Sri �Dato' Seri Utama Hj Mohd Isa Bin Hj Abdul Samad, and Honorable Member of Parliament Y. Bhg Dato' Seri Azalina Othman, �witnessed the signing ceremony for the memorandum of understanding between Felda's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Dato' Dr. Emel Faizal bin Dato' Mohd Mokhtar and TWI Ltd's Chief Executive Christoph Wiesner. TWI has been active in Malaysia since the early 1980s and has had its SEA headquarters based in Kuala Lumpur since 1993. The Felda Foundation was established on 26 September 1998 under the Trustee Act 1952 with the purpose of improving the standard of education, health, research and development and welfare of the citizens of Malaysia. This most recent partnership will enable TWI and Yayasan Felda, to train and certify initially 450 students in welding, Blasting/Blasting Operative and NDT Technician.
Representatives from the Malaysian media were on hand to capture key moments throughout the ceremony, and the event was also supported by fellow Malaysian business people currently working in the UK. Christoph Wiesner opened the ceremony by welcoming the visitors and thanking senior managers from Felda for the opportunity to develop this exciting venture. He noted that this opportunity 'intensified TWI's penetration into the Malaysian market, where the main thrust was to train local people, up-skill local resource and enable quality assurance.'
Felda's Director General, Datuk Faizoull Ahmad also gave a speech in which he recognised the importance of these international partnerships in developing a skilled and competent workforce in Malaysia.� TWI's unique background in technology, industry standards and best practice means it is the ideal partner to define and deliver training for industry's competence requirements. The benefits to industry include its compliance with National and International standards, increased customer confidence, reduction of rework and failures, global recognition and the provision of on-going career progression.
This programme will feed the Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) , Iskandar Development and others project in Southern Johor , Rapid project critical in developing this area into a new hub for the petroleum and petrochemical industry in Malaysia.
