The milestone marks the end of a major project to digitise, and make web-accessible, to Members reports dating back to February 1976, when a TWI researcher named Steve Jones published the first on 'Process tolerance in submerged arc welding
The Core Research report archive embraces work on a broad range of subjects from adhesives in aerospace to structural integrity in gas pipelines. It will be searchable by Industrial Members.
During the 35 years since 1976 work in the Core Research programme has included the pioneering of friction stir welding as well as CO2 laser cutting, reduced pressure electron beam welding and pulsed arc MIG welding. Especially in the eighties and nineties, work embraced the first sightings of theories which today are the internationally adopted standard or code of practice. In particular TWI led the field in fatigue design and fracture mechanics theory, and the associated areas of the Wells wide plate test and crack tip opening displacement testing.
Rough calculations indicate that these reports represent the culmination of some 100m worth of project work.
This archive augments the wealth of technical information already available to Industrial Members through the TWI website. It is the foundation of the benefits available to companies through their membership of TWI.
