What is NSIRC...?

The National Structural Integrity Research Centre is an industrial postgraduate education organisation, providing industry-led PhD and Masters Courses. Established in 2012 by founding partners TWI Ltd, Lloyd's Register Foundation and bp, the centre incorporates academia with industry, combining world-class facilities with the knowledges and skills to create impactful research programmes.

In 2023, NSIRC focuses on the development of innovative technologies, processes and materials to improve the safety, reliability and cost effectiveness of the industrial structures and components in the oil and gas, energy and transportation sectors.

PhD research projects at NSIRC are based on a three-pronged approach, encompassing: developing fundamental understanding; developing and validating engineering models and systems; and developing engineering applications and solutions. Through carefully research degrees, NSIRC Students are striving to deliver the next generation of engineering solutions to meet the ever-increasing demands of industry.

All NSIRC students receive expert supervision and skills training during their PhD projects, and are guided by an Industrial Supervisor as well as an Academic Supervisor. These complimenting influences help to maintain industrial relevance to the research, as well as high levels of academic quality.
